C-Drama Review : Colorful Bone 艳骨

I just finished watching Colorful Bone (艳骨) cast Dong Meng Shi (who also played proud of love) and Wang He Run. This drama is also adapted from web novel with same title. Colorful bone is a story about the mystery of the painted skin master who able to change one’s appearance by changing their face skin to other.

Once during the dynasties time there was three kingdom existed after Emperor Yu. These kingdoms were Nan Jun Guo (South Country), Bai Di Guo and Tian Chu Kingdom. The story itself is more focused to Tian Chu Kingdom as the biggest and also strongest country among the threes. Fifteen years ago something was happened to the Tian Chu Kingdom, Emperor Chu was disappearing together with his oldest son, Prince Ren Cheng while the empress was killed, leaving the youngest prince Chu Zi Fu who was still so young.

Feng Ru Ge, the teacher of two princes during that time was sent far away by the emperor. At the time when Feng Ru Ge got the news about the assassin that happened in palace, hurried he came back but everything has late because the emperor and the oldest prince have disappeared, the empress was bleeding and at her side, youngest prince Chu Zi Fu was crying calling his mother.

The youngest prince still so young, but a country should have its ruler so that Feng Ru Ge with the help of the head of Palace guard, Guard Kuan tried to stabilized Tian Chu Kingdom, controlled its minister with fear so that they wouldn’t try to separate the power among themselves. He decided to take himself as bad man and self-proclaim as Guo Shi, took the responsible to rule the kingdom on behalf of the youngest prince until he reached mature age then it would give back the power to the prince as emperor later on (this his plan).

Meanwhile Feng Ru Ge has adopted a little girl as his adopted daughter called as Jing Su who would be princess consort or empress if she married Chu Zi Fu in the future but there were not many people knew about her. He also has a discipline named Han Guang whom he has trained to be young prince protector. Within fifteen years Feng Ru Ge has succeed to manage and stabilize the living of Tian Chu’s people, teaching his adopted daughter the technique changing skin and made her to be painted skin master, monitoring the progress that made by the youngest prince Chu Zi Fu and taking control in court.

After fifteen years, The South country (Nan Jun Guo) asked for marriage alliance between The South Country and Tian Chu Kingdom. So that princess ALi sent to Tian Chu to marry Chu Zi Fu who strongly opposed this idea because the person he wanted to marry is Jing Su. The tragedy of all the things started when Jing Su who was sent away from Tian Chu by Feng Ru Ge in order to keep her safe and not killed and fate lead her met Rui Ying, a Shi Si, a man who should sacrifice himself for his master and Zhao Ru Shi, Rui Ying’s master who tried to suicide herself because her husband didn’t look at her.

Jing Su was pitying Zhao Ru Shi but she even pitied Rui Ying more because he has such sad look. So that Jing Su agreed to help Zhao Rui Shi to change her face into one of most beautiful woman’s face as exchanged she should give Rui Ying to her. Painted skin master not only help people to change their skin and look but at same time they changed those people life too.

Since then, everyone who gets involved, their live have changed.

My Impression:

Speak frankly, I didn’t have any idea when starting to watch this drama. The only reason I get interested only the cast and also the way the filmed it. At same time, the only actor that I recognized only Dong Meng Shi but I didn’t watch his previous drama. So, this is my first time watching all of them.

The story plot is quite good, although most of the cast could be said as newbie, but their acting weren’t lame, at least the actress who played as Jing Su much better compare to few senior actresses who got good projects, kind of novel adapted dramas, whose projects never let me watched to the end T^T

To sum up, the story plot of this drama actually is so simple, it wanted to tell that ‘one may know a person for a long time without understanding his true nature’, just like Zhao Ru Shi relationship with her husband.

The complicated love among the youngsters Rui Ying – Jing Su- Chu Zi Fu – Han Guang – ALi.

The complicated hatred between Feng Ru Ge – The Chu Emperor, The Empress, Yun Xi – Han Guang’s mother, ALi’s teacher….

Everyone in this drama has their own stories. I can’t say this drama as everyone cup of tea, but for me, it’s okay to give it try after all most of actresses and actors are 90’s generation and their acting are not bad.
